Will it work on my jewellery?

It's made for sterling silver and silver plate: rings, chains, bracelets, lockets and earrings that have gone dull, yellow or black.

Not for: pearls, opals, turquoise, coral, amber or other soft stones (polish around them), plating that's already worn through, or darkened details you want to keep dark.

Not sure? Send us a photo before you buy and we'll tell you honestly.

Is this a harsh acid dip?

No. Dips dissolve tarnish with acid and treat the whole piece at once. Conservators warn they can over-clean silver, strip the darkened detail that gives old pieces their character, and get trapped inside hollow pieces.

This is a liquid polish you apply with a cloth, so you decide exactly where it goes.

Why not just use baking soda and foil?

Honestly, that trick works, and it's gentle on the silver itself. But it soaks the whole piece, including stones, glue and darkened details, and it leaves no protection behind.

Our sets let you clean only where you want, then keep pieces bright for longer with anti-tarnish strips and storage.

Tarnish is a thin surface layer. The silver is still underneath.

Easy at-home care

1. Apply to a cloth
Shake well and put a little polish on a soft cloth, not straight onto stones.

2. Rub gently
Use straight back-and-forth strokes, turning the cloth as it darkens. A cotton swab gets into chains and detail.

3. Buff & store
Buff with a clean, dry cloth, then store with an anti-tarnish strip to keep it bright for longer.

Always test a small hidden spot first. Full instructions come with every set.

Who this is (and isn't) for

For: inherited and everyday sterling silver and silver-plated jewellery (rings, chains, bracelets, lockets, earrings) that has gone dull, yellow or black.

Not for: pearls, opals, turquoise, coral or amber; costume jewellery whose plating has worn through; or darkened designs you want to keep dark.

Not sure? Send us a photo before you buy.

Ask about a piece

So how does it actually work?

Silver reacts with sulphur in the air and forms a thin, dark layer of silver sulphide. That's tarnish. A fine silver polish lifts that layer with very mild abrasives and leaves the bright silver underneath. The polish in your Restore set also contains a tarnish preventive to slow the dark layer coming back.

What you can expect

Light yellowing usually lifts in a minute or two. Heavy black tarnish can take a few rounds. Once a piece is bright, storing it with anti-tarnish strips or in a Silver Keeper bag keeps it that way for longer. Exactly how long depends on your air, your skin and how the piece is stored.

Questions, answered

How often should I clean my jewellery?

Only when it needs it. Pieces worn often tarnish less, because wearing them rubs tarnish off. For pieces in storage, a quick polish once or twice a year, plus an anti-tarnish strip in the box, is usually enough.

Can I use it on gold?

Yes. The polish in every Restore set is made for silver and is also suitable for gold. Gold doesn't tarnish the way silver does, so it usually just needs a gentle clean.

Does it work on silverware too?

Yes. Restore works just as well on flatware, trays and teapots as on jewellery.

How does the photo advice work?

After you order, email us a clear photo of the piece in daylight. We'll tell you whether it looks like sterling or plate, what to avoid, and how to treat it. It's included with every set.

How does the video call work? (Heirloom Collection)

After your order arrives, book a 30-minute video call at a time that suits you. Bring your pieces and we'll go through them one by one.

Can I send it as a gift?

Yes. Add the recipient's address at checkout and leave a gift note. Prices aren't shown in the parcel.
